Has the term “operation” or “surgery” ever been related to you at some point in time in your life?
Yes? Well, then you may find this blog really boring. Better wait for the next blog
No?. Ah,now you are right up my streets. Come in!
It all began when I was a bubbly, angelic little 5th grader, when suddenly I found myself unable to see things clearly;whether it be reading things written on the class blackboard
or a cute girl advancing towards me!
. Whatever it was, I soon found out that I had a case of “severe myopia”; to put it in simple terms, short sightedness.
And as it happen to be, I had to start wearing a piece of glasses. Now as anyone would feel, I felt really stupid wearing these glasses especially since they were really protruding as I had high power. But somehow I managed it till my 10th grade, but as the sense of adolescence set into me,I opted for a perfect contact lens.
This all went on fine, till my power really went out-of-bound and my dad finally got to the conclusion that corrective laser surgery was the only option.
Surgery!!! Now that was a big new word right up my alley. I have never even had a bandage ever on my body before and here, what do I hear? Surgery?
My instant reaction was a big NO! But somehow my parents convinced me with a “blind” notion and finally I gave in to their voices.
Now as this was new to me,I virtually confronted everyone who had undergone that surgery and all the responses I got, also from a person whom I got acquainted right then, was in the positive;quick healing, clear vision,no pain. Even the doctors assured that.
But of all the things,it had to happen to me! First, the doctors told me that the normal laser treatment nor the next level of treatment could be suited for my eye and had to go for an option which was rarely taken and expensive.
Well, the day of the operation finally arrived. I was there sitting, getting my eyes cleaned for the surgery. Just minutes before the operation, where I was the next person to get my eyes operated upon, even then I had a dubiety like “What the hell am I doing here!!”. But it went on and there I was in the operation theatre, lights flooding above me and the wide-eyed doctors looking down on me.
The whole operation took just 5 mins and the operation itself was not painful, but when they inserted a clip to hold my eyeballs, man! I saw heaven and hell at the same time.
Well, the rest is history now and I’m happy I went for the corrective surgery option as everything looks ay-ok to me now and its like I have got a new eye,a new world, a new hope and a new beginning. But I can assure you that I really gave that acquaintance of mine a really contemptuous glare the next time I talked to her
.
Cheers…
